What this site collects
No cookies, no advertising, and nothing that follows you to other sites. The fonts and images are served from this domain, not from anyone else's, so no other company learns that you were here by serving them to you.
Visitor measurement
The imprint counts visits, so that it knows whether anyone is reading. Two tools do this, and both are chosen because they work without cookies and without identifying anybody.
Cloudflare Web Analytics records that a page was requested, which page, which site referred you, and roughly where in the world the request came from. It stores nothing in your browser and builds no profile of you.
Plausible, which is switched on when the books go on sale, counts the same things and also counts how many people follow a link out to a bookshop. It records that the link was clicked, not who clicked it. It keeps no cookies, collects no personal data, and the numbers it holds cannot be traced back to a person.
Neither tool can tell the imprint who you are. Neither sets anything you would need to consent to, which is why this site has no cookie banner. If you block them, nothing on the site breaks.
The page where you write to the author carries no measurement beyond a count of how many letters have been sent.
Server logs
The company that hosts this site keeps standard server logs: the address of the page requested, the time, the browser's user agent, and an IP address. These are used to keep the site running and to see roughly how much traffic it gets. They are not combined with anything else and are not sold.
If you write to an address on this site, the message is handled by the imprint's mail provider and kept for as long as it is useful to answer you. It is not added to a mailing list and it is not shared.
If you write to the author
The letter form asks for your name, your email address, and optionally where you are writing from. The letter and those details are emailed to the imprint and kept in a private store so that the author can reply and keep track of what has been answered. Your email address is never published.
Letters are kept until you ask for yours to be removed. Write to info@arikapubs.com and the record is deleted, and anything published from it taken down, within seven days.
A letter is published only if you tick the box saying it may be, and only after the author has sent you the exact text to be published and you have agreed to it. Ticking the box is permission to be asked, not permission to publish.
The form uses a hidden field and a timing check to catch automated submissions. Neither involves a puzzle, a cookie, or anything that identifies you.
The mailing list
Letters from Arika is handled by Buttondown. You are added only after confirming through a link sent to your address, which means a stranger cannot sign you up. Every email carries an unsubscribe link, and the emails carry nothing that records whether you opened one or which links you followed.
Links out
This site links to retailers, to libraries and to the author's own site. Once you follow one of those links, that site's privacy practices apply, not this one's.
